DAY 25: #30interviews30DAYS Gloria Jeanette Lawson @LovGloria

On the 25th night of September in 1986, Gloria Jeanette Lawson was born in a hospital once called Saginaw General now called The Covenant. The hollering cry of a baby girl that would bestow upon the world not only the recycled named of her grandmother a life cut far too short, now gave breath to a new life Gloria Jeanette Lawson daughter of Zandia Michella Lawson. Lawson has compassion for people beyond measure. Lawson works as an online telephone banking supervisor...
Banking is not exactly the career she saw herself in. Her heart lies in being a college
professor of English. In her spare time for recreation she loves to watch Law & Order SVU, Cold
Case, and any type of musicals. To the world she contributed a 4 year old son named Kaylen
Miller. Lawson wants to be known to the world for more than just her pretty face she wants her
accomplishments to coincide with her looks.

7!> What beliefs do you hold onto that motivate you to do what you do?

I believe in God. He’s the reason that we’re all here on this earth. No matter which
mystical being that one may believe there’s always a higher power. I hold on to the fact that one
day my life in this world will be over and I may or may not have a life to lead in the next. The
big boom that I would like to leave behind is the memories that I have shared with others as well.

Back in the day a good name was all people needed to get by after all of the material
things were gone. I’m a bit old school in my beliefs. There are times when I lack motivation,
determination, and dedication those are times that only last for a few seconds. Seconds of
weakness compared to minutes of success isn’t a bad scale. I believe in beauty, truth, freedom,

8!> Who in your life has pushed you the hardest concerning your dreams?

When I think about how I became Gloria Lawson (relating back my bio) my mother
Zandia Michella Lawson played a major role in me becoming the well-built African American
woman I am today. I haven’t lived all of my dreams, but I’m still living. From day one my
mother has always been by my side. Latter in life she enrolled in college with me. She told
me “that if I can do, then so can you!”

There are so many times that I wanted to stop the acting, and recast my life and she was
there to put makeup on me in-between the scenes. In my opinion life is a big show.
My mother put bandages on my bruises, tied my shoes when I couldn’t. My mother
is my biggest fan. She’s my mother, and my best friend. I remember when I was laying in the
hospital bed before I gave birth to Kaylen. I kept thinking how in the world am I going to do this.
I’m not tough enough to bring another person into this world and be solely responsible for them.
Like a voice from heaven my mother grabbed my hand and said “PUSH!” I looked at her and she
somewhat glowed. My mother is also my angel. I thank God for her everyday. She is my rock.

12!> How vital/valuable do you believe your family is to your success?

Family. What can I say? Family is VITAL/VALUABLE just like a heart beat in a living
organism. Without a heart beat there is no life. Simply put besides my mother being my leading
fan my family is too. I’m the oldest of five children. I look at it this way if I don’t set a good
example, who will? They are all valuable to my success as I’m valuable to their future success.
Another win win situation.
I thank God for them everyday.

13!> Do you believe that college or higher education necessary to be successful?

We can’t all be Lawyers or Wall Street typhoons. The world needs a balance the
diminutive people are just as important as the gigantic people to help a society flow successfully.
Society couldn’t survive with only the high class, what would the difference be? If we all were
underprivileged what would being well-off mean? Nothing. There always needs to be a natural
College is not for everyone. We value plumbers just as much as teachers, both are equally
needed. Survival of the fittest. People adapt to their environment and in this case some people
aren’t fit for higher education.

Does this mean their dense or inadequate? No. We all were put here on this earth for a specific purpose and some know their purpose and others will take a lifetime to figure it out. Education is not necessary to be successful. Having education about what your expertise only makes you more knowledgeable. Not having it doesn’t make one any

14!> What is your definition of SUCCESS?

Success means to me reaching a content place and maintaining that state of content. If
you are content with your current life situation then you are successful. One thing that we should
never do is settle for anything less than what we deserve. We should never get at ease with a
situation and think that this is it, because it’s not! There’s always room for enhancement. One
can always take a fine situation and turn it into a grand situation.

21!> How far do you feel we as Americans have gotten away from “Family Values” and is there any reality in a “White-picket Fence” dream??

As Americans we have strayed far from values in general. Will we ever get back to the
things that are important? I doubt it. The world isn’t too good of a place right now. People lie,
cheat, steal, and kill. It’s almost to the point where I don’t want to leave the house sometimes.
The American dream is simply a dream there’s no “white-picket fence.” The American
reality is a nightmare.
