1!> How do you feel about the current state of Hip Hop and the music industry in general?
As a music Producer, and a fan and child of Hip Hop, I feel that its taken for granted and not appreciated. The artistry of the music is no longer a priority. People see music as lic or a way to get on as opposed to expressing their feelings or creating art. They see Hip Hop as a meal ticket and that saddens me and it is very apparent when listening to today’s music. There are still a few Artsists who stay true to the music but, unfortunately, they are now the minority. Hip Hop isn’t dead but it’s on life support.
3!> Do you feel like the recession is over?
History shows that this country was built off of being innovative and building something out of nothing. There wasn’t a system in place when this nation was founded. I do understand that a lot of Americans have their livelihoods built around “the system” in regards to how they live, make money, and survive. This has put people in a complacent state where they are comfortable and they find themselves not prepared for this “recession”, which causes people to begin panicking and stressing.
The truth of the matter is we are only in a recession if we believe that we are. You can use this time in history to stress out by listening to how awful things are on the news and how we are one pay check away from homelessness, or you can choose to take this time to become innovative, to begin living in your purpose and your passion and begin making money from that.
4!> What steps do minorities need to take to create a better community for our children?
First and foremost we need LEADERSHIP. We as a community need to step up and become role models and leaders for our future, which are the children. I remember when a neighborhood raised a child, not just their family. The entire community chipped in and raised the children. The generations who were raised by the village have a different set of values.
There is no longer a sense of community. As a result, this new generation has fallen away from a sense of pride, accomplishment, and empowerment. There is this new sense of entitlement that has taken over and we, as a human race, are suffering because of it. We need to get back to the idea of us being one big family and start taking care of each other like our lives depended on it.. because it does.
10!> What do you think about the divorce rate being at 50% and what do you think could change this?
Marriage is a sacred thing and we as a society have begun treating it as though we were only boyfriend & girlfriend and when things get tough, we can just divorce the person and move onto the next relationship. There is no loyalty or respect amongst us nowadays. I can’t stand when someone is married and they say, “I’m married but we can still have sex”. That breaks my heart. To me, marriage is forever; until we die. Marriages these days are built on a weak foundation which is why they dissolve and crumble so easily and quickly.
I believe that if people would take the time to build a solid foundation before they get married, it would decrease the divorce rate. We also need to stop getting married out of convenience or obligation. The only reason you should marry someone is because you love them unconditionally. We need to be willing to put in the work to maintain our relationships. Honor, respect, and cherish your mate. They are not disposable nor should they be microwavable… slow down and take your time.
6!> What beliefs do you hold onto that motivate you to do what you do?
When I was homeless and I made the decision to come to Atlanta, my Dad shared some wisdom with me before I left. He said, “You won’t be able to accomplish what you desire to accomplish without help… you can’t do it on your own.” I wholeheartedly believe that. We all need each other. We cannot succeed without one another. My purpose on earth is to help people.
Whether it’s helping them to find their purpose, get motivated to start living your dream, find out who they really are, heal old wounds in order to move forward, whatever it is, I am there to assist people. It isn’t all about me. It’s about us… together as a community. I am motivated daily by the thought that every day, every minute, & every second that I choose not to live in my purpose, someone suffers needlessly. I can’t have that. I will always do what God put me here to do, if for no other reason then I want to inspire you to be the best you that you can.
